The busiest stretch of the spring sports calendar arrives next week for the Hermantown Hawks, with postseason tennis and softball joining a packed schedule of baseball, golf, track and field and lacrosse events across the Northland.
Hermantown’s week begins Monday with both golf teams competing in meets at Cloquet Country Club. The Hawks baseball team, 10-8 following a 3-0 home victory over Chisago Lakes on Friday, then hosts Proctor (3-8) in a Lake Superior Conference game at 4:30 p.m. at Fichtner Field in Centricity Park.
Tuesday could become one of the most important days of the week for the Hawks.
The Hermantown boys tennis team opens Section individual competition at Cloquet High School, while the boys golf team travels to Ridgeview Country Club for an invitational. Hermantown also hosts a large boys and girls track and field invitational at Centricity Stadium beginning at 4 p.m.
The baseball team stays home Tuesday afternoon to face Grand Rapids (8-8) at 4:30 p.m. at Fichtner Field. The Hermantown softball team, 12-6 overall and 6-1 in the Lake Superior Conference, also is scheduled to begin Section 7AAA postseason play Tuesday at home against Grand Rapids.
Tuesday evening concludes with the Proctor/Hermantown boys lacrosse team traveling to face Marshall School in Duluth in a rescheduled varsity matchup originally slated for April 18.
Wednesday features another busy golf slate.
The Hermantown girls golf team competes at Mesabi Country Club against Hibbing, while the boys golf program splits between invitationals at Nemadji Golf Course and Mesabi Country Club.
Thursday shifts attention back toward postseason competition and lacrosse.
The Hawks boys tennis team continues Section individual play at Cloquet High School, while the softball team continues Section 7AAA tournament action at Braun Park.
Thursday night also brings a varsity boys lacrosse matchup between Superior and Proctor/Hermantown at 7 p.m. at Centricity Stadium.
The baseball team closes the varsity week Friday with a doubleheader against Bemidji at Bemidji State University beginning at 1 p.m.
